A special panel at the 31st International Holy Quran Fair has discussed different aspects of Codex Mashhad that is known as the most complete Hijazi Kufic manuscript.
Quranic scholar and translator Morteza Kariminia highlighted
the significance of the Codex at a specialized forum. He noted that the
252-page manuscript has captivated scholars for nearly a century due to its
completeness and historical value.
Unlike other fragments that contain only portions of the
Quran, the Codex Mashhad represents the most intact manuscript from the
inaugural Hijri century currently accessible, he said.
Kariminia addressed the Western efforts to cast historical
aspersions and skepticism on the Quran's authenticity. He asserted that the
Codex Mashhad, authenticated through scientific techniques like radiocarbon
dating to originate from an era proximate to the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH)
Bi’that, effectively counters these doubts and undermines such endeavors.
He further emphasized the unique importance and reverence of
the Codex Mashhad among the Mus’hafs preserved at the Astan Quds Razavi
library.
Also contributing to the discussion was Quranic authority
Seyed Ali Sarabi, who underscored the Islamic tradition, as advocated by the
Infallible Imams (AS), of safeguarding and maintaining Mus’hafs. He commended
the Astan Quds Razavi's diligent efforts in amassing and conserving ancient
Quranic texts and other religious works, thereby enriching the Islamic heritage
for the global Muslim community.
